Woman dies during kidney stone surgery at Varanasi nursing home, husband alleges negligence

Medical Negligence
Varanasi: A woman allegedly died during surgery for kidney stones at a private nursing home in Varanasi's Sarnath area, with her family accusing the doctor and hospital management of medical negligence.
According to a complaint filed with Sarnath police, the woman's husband, a resident of Chhatai Kala under Shahganj police station in Jaunpur district, took her to Dirghayu Hospital near the old RTO on September 7 for treatment of kidney stones.

She was admitted to the hospital the same day and was subsequently taken to the operation theatre for surgery. About two hours later, when her husband inquired about her condition, doctors allegedly told him that she had suffered a heart attack during the operation. They reportedly said she needed to be shifted to the ICU and that family members could not meet her.
The family later learned that the woman had died. Her husband alleged that she died in the operation theatre because of an incorrect surgical procedure. He further alleged that when he questioned the doctor who had performed the operation, the doctor fled from the hospital, leaving the woman’s body behind.
The incident triggered an uproar at the nursing home, with enraged family members creating a commotion after learning about the death. Police reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and pacified the family. The woman's body was taken into custody and sent to the mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Speaking to Dainik Bhaskar, Station House Officer Sarnath Pankaj Kumar Tripathi said that a case has been registered against the hospital management on the complaint of the deceased's husband and further action will be taken after the post-mortem report comes.
The allegations of medical negligence have not yet been established. The post-mortem findings and the police investigation are expected to clarify the circumstances surrounding her death.
