MCI tells all medical colleges to conclude final year PG Medical Exams, as soon as condusive
It is advised that the concerned Medical Colleges/Universities in which Final Year Examinations have not been completed should complete this exercise, as soon as the situation is conducive for holding Final Year PG Examinations.
New Delhi: Through a recent notice, the Board of Governors in supersession of the Medical Council of India (MCI BoG) has directed all government and private medical colleges in the country to conduct the MD, MS, PG Diploma examinations for the Final Year PG medical students as soon as the situation is suitable for the same.
The decision to this effect was taken considering the ongoing coronavirus (COVID 19) pandemic due to which all the PG Medical admission process for this year had been halted.
The authorities, in the recently issued notice signed by Dr Rakesh Kumar Vats, Secretary-General, has clearly stated that it had come to the notice of the MCI BoG that due to the outbreak of COVID-19 Pandemic final year Examination of Postgraduate Courses [Diploma/MD/MS] has been delayed along with the counselling for admission to PG Medical courses.
As a result, the start of academic session 2020-21 is delayed and a new batch of PG students are yet to join their respective Colleges.
Thus, the MCI BoG has advised the medical colleges and varsities to conclude these exams after the situation gets stable.
Keeping in view these circumstances, it is advised that the concerned Medical Colleges/Universities in which Final Year Examinations have not been completed should complete this exercise, as soon as the situation is conducive for holding Final Year PG Examinations.
Furthermore, in order to ensure that there is no shortage of Residents in handling the COVID-19 Pandemic, the services of these Postgraduate students as Residents may be continued to be utilized until fresh batches of Postgraduate students have joined, the MCI directed the institutes.
All Medical Institutions, including Central/State Government or Private Institutions, are also advised to continue:
(a) Availability of accommodation;
(b) Payment of Stipend; to all such Final Year Postgraduate students during this extended period.
