Soon, 1-year uniform mandatory training likely for FMG candidates with MBBS from Abroad
New Delhi: Graduates with MBBS from abroad may soon have to undergo mandatory 1-year training, as the Medical Council of India (MCI) is mulling to bring uniform policies training of such candidates across the country. For the same, the Medical Council of India is also going to set up skill laboratories for training such candidates across the country.
The observations to this effect were recently made in one of the meetings of the Board of Governors in Supersession of the Medical Council of India ( MCI BOG) where it went through the issue of Establishment of Skill Laboratories for the training of MBBS students and Foreign Medical Graduates as well as Skills Training Curriculum for Foreign Medical Graduates
The Board of Governors considered a various set of communications received from the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and decided that appropriate institutes would be identified for setting up of skill labs for training students pursuing medical degrees from abroad.
The MCI BOG further noted that some private organisations have offered such training on their own. BoG advised to take further steps for the regulation of such courses while providing them technical support if required.
The BOG also delved in the fact that a few state medical council already call for mandatory One-year compulsory internship for foreign medical graduates with MBBS or equivalent degrees from abroad
"It has come to notice of BoG that Delhi Medical Council & Travancore Medical Council have made one-year internship compulsory before permanent registration of Foreign Medical Graduate after passing Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) conducted by the National Board of Examination (NBE)," it observed.
" BoG may also take further action for uniform application of such provision all across the country," the MCI BOG noted in its meeting
