Nagpur Municipal Corporation Urges Vigilance Amid Covid-19 Surge

Nagpur: In light of a slight uptick in COVID-19 cases, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has appealed to residents to remain calm but vigilant, stressing the importance of early detection, responsible behaviour, and adherence to safety guidelines.
Medical Dialogues had previously reported that amid reports of rising Covid-19 cases in global hubs like Hong Kong and Singapore, doctors in Mumbai have observed an uptick in mild Covid-19 cases in the city. However, they emphasise that the situation remains far from the severity of the earlier waves that caused widespread devastation between 2020 and 2022.

The city reported just one new case on Tuesday, reaffirming a pattern of minimal transmission seen over the past few months. Only one case was recorded in January and two in April, indicating a relatively stable public health situation.
In a recent press release, the civic body advised the public not to dismiss flu-like symptoms, especially if body temperature exceeds 38°C and is accompanied by a sore throat. Citizens experiencing such symptoms are encouraged to seek medical consultation at the nearest hospital. Additionally, the NMC has recommended undergoing a COVID-19 test if symptoms persist beyond 48 hours, reports Live Nagpur.

According to Nagpur Today, elderly individuals and those suffering from diabetes, hypertension, or heart disease have been advised to take extra precautions. Officials noted that symptoms of COVID-19 and influenza are often similar. Initial treatment is usually for common viral infections, and if there’s no improvement within 48 hours, a COVID-19 test is recommended.
Testing facilities remain fully operational at both the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH). The NMC has also stated that additional testing centres will be opened if needed, in coordination with the state health department.
