New Delhi: After retracting the much anticipated indefinite mandatory training extension for DrNB trainees, the National Board of Examination (NBE) has released examples of training scenario explaining the relief given in the earlier issued revised advisory.

The recent notification issued by the Natboard mentions the scenarios along with their date of completion in terms of Revised Advisory including instances where leave is taken during the training period are within the permissible limit or excess leave has been taken over and above the permissible limit or where a DrNB trainee fails to qualify the DrNB Final Theory Examination.

I.

The DrNB trainee has been registered for 3 years of training w.e.f 01.04.2018 and has taken leave during the training period within the permissible limit as per leave rules of NBE. His DrNB practical examination is scheduled on 10.08.2021.

The scheduled training of 3 years will complete on 31.03.2021. The 3 months of extension as per NBE notice will complete on 30.06.2021. The trainee will have to continue his duties at his DrNB training institution till 10.08.2021.

II.

The DrNB trainee has been registered for 3 years of training w.e.f 10.06.2018 and has taken leave during the training period within the permissible limit as per leave rules of NBE. His DrNB practical examination is scheduled on 10.08.2021.

The scheduled training of 3 years will complete on 09.06.2021. The 3 months of extension as per NBE notice will complete on 09.09.2021. The trainee will continue to discharge his duties at his training institute till 09.09.2021.

Scenarios with excess leave taken over and above the permissible limit

III.

The DrNB trainee has been registered for 3 years of training w.e.f 01.04.2018 and has taken 50 days of excess leave during the training period over and above the permissible limit as per leave rules of NBE. His DrNB practical examination is scheduled on 10.08.2021.

The scheduled training of 3 years will complete on 31.03.2021. The trainee will be doing 50 days of extension for excess leave taken which will complete on 20.05.2021. The 3 months of extension as per NBE notice will accordingly complete on 20.08.2021. The trainee will have to continue his training at his DrNB training institution till 20.08.2021.

IV.

The DrNB trainee has been registered for 3 years of training w.e.f. 10.06.2021 and has taken 50 days of excess leave during the training period over and above the permissible limit as per leave rules of NBE. His DrNB practical examination is scheduled on 10.08.2021.

The scheduled training of 3 years will complete on 09.06.2021. The trainee will be doing 50 days of extension for excess leave taken which will complete on 29.07.2021. The 3 months of extension as per NBE notice will accordingly complete on 29.10.2021. The trainee will have to continue his training at his DrNB training institution till 29.10.2021.

Scenario where a DrNB trainee fails to qualify the DrNB Final Theory Examination

V.

The DrNB trainee has been registered for 3 years of training w.e.f 01.04.2018 and has taken leave during the training period within the permissible limit as per leave rules of NBE. He fails to qualify the DrNB Theory Examination held in March 2021.

The scheduled training of 3 years will complete on 31.03.2021. The 3 months of extension as per NBE notice will complete on 30.06.2021. The trainee will have to continue his duties at his DrNB training institution till 15.08.2021

VI.

The DrNB trainee has been registered for 3 years of training w.e.f 01.04.2018 and has taken 50 days of excess leave during the training period over and above the permissible limit as per leave rules of NBE. He fails to qualify the DrNB Theory Examination held in March 2021.

The scheduled training of 3 years will complete on 31.03.2021. The trainee will be doing 50 days of extension for excess leave taken which will complete on 20.05.2021. The 3 months of extension as per NBE notice will accordingly complete on 20.08.2021. The trainee will have to continue his training at his DrNB training institution till 20.08.2021.


Earlier, the NBE had clarified that all Final Year DrNB Super Specialty trainees of the 2018 batch will have to continue to discharge the duties in this time of National exigency as may be prescribed by their hospitals, for the period as mandated as under:

"DrNB Super Specialty trainees, till fresh batches of DrNB Super Specialty trainees for 2021 admission session have joined at respective hospitals or counseling for NEET-SS 2021 is concluded, whichever is earlier."

However, the NBE has now decided that all Final Year DrNB Super-specialty trainees who were admitted in 2018 academic year will have to continue to discharge their duties at their respective institutes of DrNB training, till 15th August 2021 or completion of their DrNB Final practical examinations, whichever is EARLIER.

The information to this effect comes from a revised advisory issued by the NBE on its official website:

The advisory has been released keeping in view the prevailing COVID-19 Pandemic situation. All the concerned DrNB trainees are requested to take note of the following details of the notice released on the Natboard website.

The DrNB Final Theory Examinations of the December 2020 session have been concluded. Results for the same are likely to be declared by 15th July 2021. The DrNB Practical Examinations are likely to be concluded by 15th August 2021.

Accordingly, in partial modification of earlier NBE notices dated 04.05.2021 and 01.06.2021, it has been decided:

All Final Year DrNB Super-specialty trainees of 2018 admission session shall continue to discharge their duties at their respective institutes of DrNB training, till 15th August 2021 or completion of their DrNB Final practical examinations, whichever is EARLIER.

The trainees must complete 3 months of mandatory extension as prescribed vide NBE notice dated 18.01.2021, over and above their three years of training as per NBE regulations. This shall be irrespective of the date of their practical examination. This must be ensured by every Institution and Training Completion Certificate (TCC) must be issued accordingly.

Depending on the requirements of the host institution and consent of the trainees, they may continue to work beyond the date of conclusion of their training (as per the TCC at the respective Institutions) till the joining of the new first year candidates. The terms and conditions of this working arrangement commencing after completion of training, will be independent of the original training contract and shall not involve the NBE.

The NBE Accredited hospitals are required to pay the stipend to the trainees as per the stipend guidelines of NBE during the extended period of training, stated the notice.

NBE shall make all attempts to allocate the centres for DrNB Final Practical examinations of December 2020 session for theory qualified trainees within the state of their DrNB training or nearby states, as per availability of centres, the NBE added.
