Nursing Admission Fraud: Man poses as medical college staff, cheated student of Rs 1.2 lakh
Bhopal: In yet another case of alleged admission fraud, a con artist posing as college staff has come under the radar of the Bhopal cybercrime branch for allegedly duping a student of Rs 1.2 lakh on the pretext of providing admission to his brother at a private medical college in Misrod locality.
The police arrested the accused based on the complainant's statements. The man, a resident of Narmadapuram, introduced himself as a private medical college staff member and convinced the complainant that he could provide admission to his brother in a nursing course at the medical college.
The history of the incident goes back to September 2020, when the accused approached the complainant and his brother, who went to the college to gather information about the admission process.

Due to the man's assurance that his brother would be accepted into the college, the complainant had to deposit a certain amount. He asked the complainant to deposit a sum of Rs 1.2 lakh in different installments through UPI.
Having realized that the man has turned out to be a scammer, the complainant approached the cyber crime branch on January 14 and lodged a complaint against the accused.
Cyber ACP told India Today, "On January 14, we received a complaint that a man, posing as college staff, told the complainant that he would get his brother's admission in a nursing course at a private medical college in Misrod. The accused described himself as the staff of the nursing college and asked the complainant to deposit the money. He asked the complainant to deposit a sum of Rs 1.2 lakh in different installments through UPI."
A case was registered under sections 419 (Punishment for cheating by personation) and 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the accused was taken into police custody.
While investigating the case, the police found that the accused had a history of defrauding others on the pretext of providing admission to medical colleges.
Meanwhile, the police have seized the bank account details, mobile phone and SIM card of the accused. When asked about the investment of the money, the accused said that he used the money in his own personal business.
