Surat dietician killed by husband, body hidden in wooden box

Surat: In a shocking incident, a 40-year-old dietician was allegedly murdered by her husband in Gujarat’s Surat, with her body later found hidden inside a wooden box at his former residence. The accused has been detained, police said.

According to the news reports, the accused had initially approached the Godadara police station on April 20, claiming that his wife had been missing for four days. The woman, a qualified dietician with an MSc in Food and Nutrition, worked at the Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education and Research and had recently started her own private clinic.

According to police, the situation took a dramatic turn when the accused allegedly left a handwritten note for his son before disappearing. In the note, he reportedly confessed to the crime and disclosed the location of the body at an old residence in the Salabatpura area. The son shared a photo of the letter with a relative via WhatsApp, who immediately alerted the authorities.

"I wish to state that the initial days following my marriage were pleasant. However, just three years into the marriage, my wife began to undergo a change in behaviour; from that point onwards, doubts began to arise regarding our marital relationship. After enduring this situation and exercising patience for so many years, I could bear it no longer. I was ultimately driven by desperation and compelled to commit a crime," the letter read. "I alone am responsible for the crime I have committed. No other individual had any knowledge of this matter. I personally executed every step (the entire modus operandi) of this crime. The evidence pertaining to the crime I committed on April 20, 2026, is located at my oldest place of residence: a corrugated-sheet house situated on the first floor of a locked dwelling within the lane of the 'Lakdi Wale Building' (Wooden Building), at Kagji Ki Chal, near Sahara Darwaza. My wife is inside that house. I alone bear full responsibility for having committed this crime," the note further reads, reports NDTV.

Acting on the lead, police traced the accused to his former residence in the Salabatpura area, where they discovered the victim's body. Investigators said the accused placed the body inside a wooden box and allegedly poured cement over it in an attempt to prevent detection.

Speaking to TOI, Salabatpura police inspector RA Jadeja said, "The couple lived with their son in the Godadara area of Surat. They were married for 15 years. The accused had given a missing person complaint of a woman on April 20 to the Godadara police. However, later he gave a letter to his son and disappeared from home. Based on the letter, we traced the woman to his old home in Salabatpura."

The accused is currently in custody as the police investigate the precise motives behind the crime. The authorities are also looking into whether any other individuals assisted in the murder or the subsequent attempt to hide the body, reports The Republic.
