Rohtak: In a shocking incident, a doctor and staff at Sapra Hospital in Hisar have been accused of assaulting and beating a patient undergoing treatment at the hospital's ICU. The incident captured in a CCTV camera of a male nurse beating the patient went viral on social media.
According to the statement of the patient's son given to HT, his father was allegedly held hostage, thrashed and threatened with death by the accused doctor, nursing staff and a security guard. Based on the family's complaint, the police have registered an FIR against the trio accused and the hospital authorities suspended the nursing staff.
The video circulating on social media has attracted a lot of attention and received criticism from online users. In the footage, a male nurse is seen approaching a patient who is lying in bed and he stands beside the patient for a few moments. After checking his surroundings, the male nurse throws a punch at the patient's left lower chest. Later, the nurse tied the patient's hands to the bed.
The incident came to light when the patient the next day informed his family about the alleged assault he had faced at night and early in the morning. Following this, the family members complained about it to the hospital management. When the hospital authorities checked the CCTV footage, the shocking incident was discovered.

As per an HT news report, the patient was admitted to the ICU of Sapra Hospital in Hisar on June 18 as he was suffering from liver-related ailments. The incident took place when he was undergoing treatment in the ICU.
In a complaint to the police, the patient's son said “I asked my cousin Sumit to take care of my father. At around 3 am doctor Naveen Kumar, nurse Sonu and a security guard came and held his father hostage, thrashed him and threatened to kill him."
The patient's son Darshan, a resident of Kaithal told Crime Tak "Everything went well for two days, but between 3 and 4 am in the morning of June 20, the hospital staff held my father hostage while he was lying on the bed and beat him up. At that time, my cousin was also present but he was outside the ICU as an attendant. Since the attendant is not allowed to go inside the ICU, he was unaware about what had happened to him."
In response to the incident, Hospital operator Dr Tarun Sapra after suspending the concerned staff told Punjab Kesari "The police is taking action in the matter. The police will deal with the accused. We have taken action from our side."
Further, Amarujala quoted Dr Sapla saying "It is a personal matter of those who assaulted the patient. It has nothing to do with the hospital. The patient has no problem with the hospital. His treatment is still going on."
Following this, his son approached the Hisar police and filed a complaint against the trio accused. Acting on the complaint, the police registered a case under Sections 147 (rioting), 149 (common object of unlawful assembly), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 342 (wrongful confinement), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code at Civil police station. An investigation into the case is underway.
