AI Enters B Pharm Syllabus Under NEP 2020 Reforms
New Delhi: Aimed at strengthening students' technical competence and preparing them for emerging challenges in the healthcare sector, artificial intelligence (AI) will now be included in the regular curriculum for Bachelor of Pharmacy (B Pharm) students.
According to a recent media report by TOI, Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) Vice-President Dr Jashubhai H Chaudhary made the announcement while attending the inaugural function of a faculty development programme (FDP) on ‘Effective implementation of B Pharm curriculum as per NEP 2020: Challenges and opportunities’ as the chief guest. The programme was organised on Monday by the United Institute of Pharmacy (UIP), Naini, in association with PCI, New Delhi.
Dr Chaudhary stated that the PCI has introduced major revisions to the B Pharm curriculum in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, with the introduction of AI being one of the most important reforms. He also announced that the PCI would organise a nationwide training initiative for pharmacy faculty through FDPs, workshops and practical sessions to facilitate the effective implementation of the updated curriculum.
Speaking as the guest of honour, PCI Uttar Pradesh Chairman Sandeep Badola said that the revised B Pharm curriculum would create new opportunities for students in research and employment. He urged pharmacy teachers to implement PCI’s initiatives at the institutional level so that the benefits reach students across the country.
United University Vice-Chancellor Prof. AM Agrawal said that the NEP-oriented curriculum would help future pharmacists emerge as highly sought-after healthcare professionals. He added that India has become one of the world’s preferred healthcare destinations and that pharmacists would have an important role in supporting this transformation, reports TOI.
