Delhi Police Busts Rs 10 Crore Syndicate Supplying Fake Cancer, Liver Disease Drugs, 4 Held

New Delhi: Delhi Police has busted a counterfeit medicine racket worth nearly Rs 10 crore and arrested four persons allegedly involved in manufacturing and supplying fake life-saving drugs used for the treatment of serious illnesses including cancer and liver diseases.
The accused were apprehended following a raid conducted by the Crime Branch in Delhi after police received inputs about a syndicate engaged in the production and distribution of counterfeit medicines across multiple states. During the operation, officials recovered a large quantity of fake medicines, packaging material, labels and equipment used in the illegal manufacturing process.
Investigators said the gang was allegedly producing counterfeit versions of expensive medicines commonly prescribed for critical illnesses. Police officials stated that the racket posed a major threat to public health as unsuspecting patients could have consumed fake drugs instead of genuine treatment medicines.
According to the investigation, the accused had allegedly developed a sophisticated network for manufacturing, packaging and supplying the fake medicines in markets across the country. Authorities suspect that the counterfeit products closely resembled original branded medicines, making it difficult for consumers to identify the difference.
Police said the recovered stock and manufacturing material are estimated to be worth around Rs 10 crore. Further investigation is underway to identify additional members linked to the network and trace the supply chain through which the fake medicines were distributed.
Officials are also probing whether the racket had connections with wholesalers, distributors or retailers in different regions. Samples of the seized medicines have reportedly been sent for laboratory testing and verification.
NDTV reports that the accused were allegedly involved in counterfeiting medicines used in the treatment of severe diseases, raising serious concerns over patient safety and the illegal pharmaceutical trade.
The Delhi Police Crime Branch stated that the efforts are continuing to dismantle the wider network and identify all individuals associated with the counterfeit medicine operation.
