Emcure Pharma Names Satish Mehta Chairman, Appoints Raghu Kumar as Independent Director
Pune: Emcure Pharmaceuticals Ltd has announced key changes to the composition of its Board of Directors following the recommendations of its Nomination and Remuneration Committee. The Board, at its meeting held on August 6, 2026, noted the decision of Berjis Desai not to seek re-appointment as Chairman and Non-Executive, Non-Independent Director, approved the appointment of Raghu Kumar as an Additional Director (Non-Executive and Independent), and appointed Satish Mehta, Managing Director and CEO, as the Chairman of the company with effect from the conclusion of the ensuing Annual General Meeting (AGM).
Berjis Desai, who is liable to retire by rotation at the forthcoming AGM, informed the Board of his unwillingness to seek re-appointment following his appointment as a member of the National Commission for Minorities, New Delhi. Consequently, he will cease to hold office as Chairman and Director of Emcure Pharmaceuticals, along with all committee positions held by him, from the conclusion of the AGM scheduled for September 21, 2026.
The Board also approved the appointment of Mr. Raghu Kumar (DIN: 01983106) as an Additional Director in the capacity of a Non-Executive Independent Director with effect from August 6, 2026. Subject to shareholders' approval at the ensuing AGM, he will serve as an Independent Director for a first term of three consecutive years. The company clarified that Kumar is not debarred from holding the office of a director by any order of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) or any other authority and is not related to any director or key managerial personnel of the company.
Raghu Kumar brings over four decades of experience across the pharmaceutical, healthcare and consumer products sectors. During his career, he has held senior leadership positions at multinational companies including Allergan, Novartis and Bayer. He currently serves as the Chairman and Independent Director of Emcutix Biopharmaceuticals Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Emcure Pharmaceuticals. He holds a Bachelor's (Honours) degree in Economics and Mathematics from St. Stephen's College, University of Delhi, and a postgraduate degree in Business Management (Marketing) from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.
According to Emcure Pharmaceuticals, the Board has also approved the appointment of Satish Mehta (DIN: 00118691), the company's Managing Director and CEO, as Chairman with effect from the conclusion of the AGM on September 21, 2026, following Desai's retirement. Mehta founded Emcure in 1981 with the vision of providing affordable, high-quality healthcare. Under his leadership, the company has expanded its presence to more than 70 countries through subsidiaries in the UK, Canada, Singapore, Brazil and other markets. The company also disclosed that Satish Mehta is the father of Whole-time Directors Samit Mehta and Namita Thapar.
