GST Authority Slaps Rs 3.83 Crore Tax Demand on Alkem Laboratories

The Company has stated that it does not agree with the demand order and will contest the same by taking appropriate action, including filing an appeal.
New Delhi: Alkem Laboratories Limited has received an order from a statutory authority under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Act, 2017, demanding GST of Rs 3,83,45,920 along with applicable interest and a penalty of Rs 38,34,592 for the period from 2017-2018 to 2019-2020.
The Company has stated that it does not agree with the demand order and will contest the same by taking appropriate action, including filing an appeal.
In a disclosure made under Regulation 30 read with Schedule III of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015, Alkem Laboratories said the order has been passed by the Commissioner of GST & Central Excise (Appeals–II), Newry Towers, 2nd Floor, No. 2054-I, II Avenue, 12th Main Road, Anna Nagar, Chennai. The order pertains to the Company’s Tamil Nadu GSTIN and has been issued under the applicable provisions of the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Act, 2017 and the State Goods and Services Tax (SGST) Act, 2017.
As per the details provided in Annexure A of the disclosure, the order was received by the Company on 12 January 2026. The demand order mainly alleges short payment of taxes. However, the Company has maintained that the taxes have been appropriately and correctly discharged. Alkem Laboratories has clearly stated that it does not agree with the allegations made in the demand order and will contest the same through appropriate legal remedies available under law.
The Company has also clarified that there is no material impact of the said order on its financial position, operations, or other activities. Alkem Laboratories informed that the disclosure has been made in compliance with the requirements of the SEBI LODR Regulations.
