Jajpur Assistant Drugs Controller Arrested for Allegedly Accepting Rs 6,000 Bribe

Bribe
Kendrapada: Vigilance officials on Thursday arrested Sanjay Kumar Hansdah, Assistant Drugs Controller in Jajpur, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 6,000. Hansdah, who also holds additional charge of Jagatsinghpur district, allegedly demanded the money in exchange for recommending the complainant's application to the Office of the Drug Controller, Bhubaneswar, for the issuance of a wholesale medicine licence.
The complainant had applied on May 11, 2025, for a licence to operate his wholesale medicine store. He allegedly met Hansdah several times regarding the application, but the officer reportedly demanded ₹6,000 for processing and recommending it. Unable to meet the demand, the complainant approached the Vigilance Department.
On Thursday, the complainant visited Hansdah’s office but found him absent. After contacting the officer over the phone, Hansdah allegedly asked him to come to Jaipur Chowk on Paradip–Cuttack NH-53.
The complainant then reached the location, where he was allegedly asked to sit inside Hansdah’s vehicle. The officer reportedly accepted the bribe there. The Vigilance team subsequently recovered the bribe money and arrested Hansdah.
According to a recent media report by The Times of India, simultaneous searches were also launched at Hansdah’s office and residence in connection with a disproportionate-assets case.
