Laurus Labs Announces Rs 64 Crore Acquisitions to Boost Peptide, Oligonucleotide Manufacturing

New Delhi: Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) Laurus Labs has announced two strategic acquisitions to strengthen its oligonucleotide and peptide manufacturing capabilities, entering into a definitive agreement to acquire a 60 per cent stake in Canada-based Galenvs Science for USD 3.75 million and a 52 per cent stake in Hyderabad-based SI&C Resins for Rs 32 crore in cash.
The acquisition of Galenvs Science, a privately held Canadian company, will expand Laurus Labs' presence in custom oligonucleotide synthesis and functional magnetic nanoparticle (MNP) technologies for diagnostic and therapeutic applications. The company operates a vertically integrated platform covering discovery, optimization, synthesis, purification, validation and pilot-scale production.
The transaction will be completed in two tranches, comprising $2.75 million towards the subscription of 8 million common shares and an additional $1 million for acquiring a 16 per cent stake in the post-issue paid-up equity capital. Galenvs operates research and development (R&D) and laboratory facilities in Montreal and reported a turnover of $1.6 million in calendar year 2025.
Laurus Labs stated that the investment would provide access to an R&D pipeline in oligonucleotides and create opportunities for business expansion in the North American market. Under the proposed arrangement, Galenvs will focus on discovery, lead optimization and preclinical process development at scales ranging from 1 µmol to 10 mmol. The developed technology will subsequently be transferred to Laurus Labs for Phase I, Phase II and Phase III clinical trial requirements and further commercial-scale manufacturing.
Separately, Laurus Labs will acquire a 52 per cent stake in Hyderabad-based SI&C Resins for Rs 32 crore in cash. The company develops and manufactures polymer- and silica-based products, including materials relevant to peptide manufacturing and chromatography applications.
According to Laurus Labs, the acquisition is aimed at strengthening its long-term supply chain security and competitiveness by bringing the manufacturing of peptide solid-support resins and chromatography stationary phases in-house. SI&C Resins will utilise the proceeds from the transaction to establish a large-scale manufacturing facility for peptide resins used as solid-phase peptide synthesis (SPPS) supports and chromatography gels.
In a stock exchange filing, Laurus Labs stated that indigenous development of resins and chromatography gels, along with large-scale manufacturing capabilities, would help the company capture opportunities in fully integrated peptide manufacturing.
The acquisitions come amid the growing commercial significance of peptide-based drugs, which have emerged as an important segment for pharmaceutical manufacturers. Over the past decade, the peptide therapeutics segment has witnessed considerable expansion, supported by the development of newer molecules used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes, chronic weight management, ophthalmic conditions and several other indications.
However, the time-consuming nature of peptide and protein synthesis has resulted in persistent manufacturing and supply constraints in the segment. Consequently, pharmaceutical companies are increasingly engaging contract development and manufacturing partners to maintain uninterrupted supplies and minimise potential supply-chain disruptions.
ETPharma reports that amid this shift, Indian CDMOs, including Laurus Labs, Gland Pharma and OneSource Specialty Pharma, have attracted investor interest. Their stocks have reportedly outperformed the benchmark Nifty Pharma index so far this year, reflecting market interest in companies expanding their capabilities in specialised pharmaceutical manufacturing.
