Medical Representative Arrested for Alleged Sexual Assault of Minor, Offered Rs 6 Lakh to Stay Silent

Thane: A 26-year-old medical representative has been arrested in Maharashtra's Thane district for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl student repeatedly for over a year, police said on Sunday.
Accused Amit Ramdavan Prajapati, a resident of Kasheli in Bhiwandi, allegedly sexually assaulted the 13-year-old girl, who is reportedly a relative of the accused, after finding her alone, according to a complaint. The Class 8 student studies at a school in Thane (West).
According to the complaint, the alleged sexual assault first took place in September last year, following which Prajapati allegedly subjected the girl to repeated sexual assault over the subsequent year. He also allegedly threatened the survivor and her family to prevent them from disclosing the matter or taking legal action, police said.
The girl recently confided in her elder sister about the alleged abuse, following which the matter came to the attention of her family. The family subsequently approached the Narpoli police and lodged a complaint on Sunday.
Prajapati had also allegedly offered the girl's family Rs 6 lakh recently to hush up the matter.
The family approached senior police officials following the intervention of a local social activist, after which police arrested Prajapati.
A case has been registered against Prajapati under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, an official from Narpoli police station told PTI.
The accused was produced before a Bhiwandi court on Sunday and was remanded in police custody till September 15, TOI reported.
Police have not disclosed the identity or other details of the minor survivor.
