Pharma Sales Manager Robbed of Rs 24 Lakh at Knifepoint in Chennai
Chennai: A six-member gang allegedly intercepted a sales manager of a private pharmaceutical company and robbed him of Rs 24 lakh at knifepoint near Ambika Appalam signal on Sardar Patel Road in Adyar on Thursday night.
The incident took place at around 9.30 pm when Anthony Augustine, 33, a sales manager with Asian Pharma International in West Tambaram, was returning home on his two-wheeler after collecting payments from medicine distributors. According to the police, Augustine was carrying Rs 24,00,760 in cash in a black bag placed in the front portion of his vehicle.
The suspects allegedly followed Augustine on three two-wheelers before intercepting him near the Ambika Appalam signal. They reportedly rammed their vehicles into his two-wheeler, causing him to fall on the road. One of the gang members then allegedly pulled out a knife and threatened Augustine.
Fearing for his safety, Augustine reportedly fled from the spot. The suspects allegedly took the black bag containing the cash and escaped from the area on their vehicles.
Augustine, who has been working with the pharmaceutical company for around five years, subsequently approached the Adyar police and lodged a complaint at around 10.30 pm. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case and initiated an investigation into the robbery.
According to officials, the accused persons were reportedly aged between 25 and 30 years. The gang is believed to have used two motorcycles and a scooter during the incident. Police are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify the suspects and trace the vehicles allegedly used in the robbery.
