Pharmacist Arrested for Allegedly Assaulting Doctor Over Patient Referrals to Rival Pharmacy

Pune: A 58-year-old medical practitioner in Pimple Nilakh was allegedly abused and assaulted by a pharmacist and his family members over the practitioner's decision to refer patients to another pharmacy instead of the pharmacy owned by the accused.
According to police officials, Sangvi police arrested the 25-year-old pharmacist and one of his relatives on Tuesday. A case has also been registered against the pharmacist's mother, sister and two other individuals in connection with the incident, which took place on Monday afternoon when the medical practitioner was present at his clinic.
An officer from Sangvi police stated that the pharmacist allegedly entered the clinic and began abusing the practitioner over his decision to refer patients to another pharmacy. The confrontation reportedly escalated when the pharmacist's mother entered the clinic and allegedly abused and assaulted a nurse present there.
When the medical practitioner's daughter attempted to intervene, the woman allegedly pushed her. Two other relatives of the pharmacist also reportedly entered the clinic and threatened the practitioner with dire consequences.
The Times of India reports that Sangvi police have arrested the pharmacist and one of his relatives, while the case also names the pharmacist's mother, sister and two other individuals in connection with the alleged assault and threats.
The police registered a case under Sections 319 (criminal trespass), 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 189 and 190 (rioting) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with relevant provisions of the Maharashtra Medicare Service Persons and Medicare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage or Loss to Property) Act.
