Sanofi India Wins Tax Relief as Rs 72.71 Lakh TDS Demand Dropped for AY 2019-20

Mumbai: Sanofi India Limited has received an order from the Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax, TDS OSD TDS Circle 2(2), Mumbai, giving effect to the favourable appellate order passed by the Commissioner of Income Tax (Appeals)-49, Mumbai, for Assessment Year (AY) 2019-20. The order has resulted in the deletion of a demand of Rs 72,71,510 against the company.
The company stated that the order passed by the Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax gives effect to the favourable appellate order received from CIT(A)-49, Mumbai, dated July 2, 2026, concerning AY 2019-20. The appellate order had resulted in the dropping of proceedings initiated under Section 201 of the Income-tax Act, 1961, thereby deleting the demand of ₹72,71,510.
Sanofi India had previously informed the stock exchanges about the favourable appellate order on July 3, 2026. The latest order gives effect to the relief allowed by CIT(A) for AY 2019-20. Consequently, the demand amounting to ₹72,71,510 has been vacated.
The matter underlying the appeal related to the non-deduction of Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) on year-end provisions. This was identified in the company's regulatory disclosure as the alleged violation or contravention against which the appeal had been filed.
The company further stated that the order has no material impact on its financial, operational or other activities. Sanofi India disclosed the development for information and records.
The order was received by Sanofi India on August 11, 2026. The authority issuing the order was the Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax, TDS OSD TDS Circle 2(2), Mumbai, while the favourable appellate order giving rise to the relief was issued by Commissioner of Income Tax (Appeals)-49, Mumbai, on July 2, 2026.
The company concluded the communication by submitting the disclosure for the information and records of the stock exchanges. The order effectively provides Sanofi India relief from the ₹72,71,510 tax demand for AY 2019-20, following the favourable appellate decision and the consequent dropping of proceedings under Section 201 of the Income-tax Act, 1961.
