Telangana DCA Cracks Down on Illegal Medicine Sale, Seizes 11 Drug Varieties
Hyderabad: The Drugs Control Administration (DCA), Telangana, has seized medicines worth Rs 18,000 after raiding a premises in Chandrayangutta, Hyderabad, where medicines were allegedly being illegally stocked and sold without a valid drug licence.
The raid was conducted following credible information regarding the illegal sale of medicines, and officials have initiated further investigation into the matter.
According to the DCA, officials conducted the raid on July 17, 2026, at a premises located at H. No. 18-9-9/48, Chandrayangutta, Hyderabad. During the inspection, it was found that Aslam Bin Salam Bajaber was allegedly stocking and selling medicines without possessing a valid drug licence, in violation of the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
During the operation, officials found 11 varieties of medicines, including antibiotics and other drugs, stocked for sale at the premises. The entire stock, valued at ₹18,000, was seized by the enforcement team. Samples of the seized medicines were also collected for analysis, and authorities stated that further investigation would be carried out and legal action would be initiated against all those found responsible.
The raid was conducted by B. Dinesh Kumar, Assistant Director, Hyderabad, along with B. Lakshmi, Drugs Inspector, Charminar, and Ch. Swapna, Drugs Inspector, Jubilee Hills.
The Drugs Control Administration also cautioned that wholesalers and dealers supplying medicines to unlicensed entities engaged in the illegal stocking and sale of drugs are equally liable for punishment under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. The department said stringent action would be initiated against such wholesalers and dealers and directed all suppliers to verify that recipient entities possess a valid drug licence before supplying medicines.
The DCA reiterated that drug licences for the stocking and sale of medicines are issued in accordance with the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. It further stated that stocking drugs for sale without a valid drug licence is a punishable offence carrying imprisonment of up to five years.
According to the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, members of the public can report complaints regarding the illegal stocking or sale of medicines, as well as suspected drug manufacturing activities, including those involving narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, through the department's toll-free helpline 1800-599-6969, operational from 10:30 AM to 5:00 PM on all working days.
