Telangana DCA seizes certain medicines for misleading advertisements

Telangana: Drugs Control Administration, Telangana officials, seized certain medicines circulating in the market with misleading claims on their labels, stating that they treat, ‘Kidney Stones’, and ‘For Prophylaxis and Treatment of Eye Infections’.

The raid was conducted on 31st December, 2024, to detect medicines moving in the market with misleading and objectionable advertisements. Konda Pindi Churnam, an Ayurvedic Medicine manufactured by Devi Naturals, LB Nagar, RR Dist., Telangana was detected at Mehdipatnam with claims of treating Kidney Stones.

Similarly, P Mycetin Ointment, an Allopathic Medicine produced by Pharma Corp. Inc (P) Ltd., Dewas Naka, Indore, Madhya Pradesh was detected in Nizamabad with claims for prophylaxis and treatment of infections of the eyes was detected at Nizamabad.

Such claims are in contravention of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954. Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954, prohibits advertisement of certain drugs for treatment of certain diseases and disorders. No person shall take part in publication of advertisement regarding the diseases/disorders indicated under Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954

Advertising a medicine for the treatment ‘Kidney Stones’, and ‘For Prophylaxis and Treatment of Eye Infections’ is prohibited under the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.

Sri. P. Santosh, Drugs Inspector, Mehdipatnam and Sri. V. Srikanth, Drugs Inspector, Nizamabad Urban are among the officers who carried out the raids. Further investigation shall be carried out and action shall be taken as per the law against all the offenders.

Persons who make misleading advertisements regarding drugs for treatment of certain diseases and disorders are punishable under Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.

Recently, Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, also seized Spurious Drugs (Counterfeit Versions) 'Montek-LC' Tablets (Montelukast Sodium and Levocetirizine Hydrochloride Tablets), falsely claimed to be manufactured by Sun PharmaLaboratories Ltd.
