Unichem Laboratories' GST Appeal Disallowed in Rs 87 Crore Penalty Dispute
New Delhi: Unichem Laboratories Limited has said the Commissioner (Appeals), Thane, disallowed its appeal in a GST dispute over the cross-charging of common services, involving a penalty of Rs 87.07 crore and interest of Rs 6.59 crore.
The case involves a penalty of Rs 87,07,09,556 and an interest liability of Rs 6,58,76,590. The company plans to appeal the order and said it does not expect a material impact on its finances, operations or other activities.
Unichem Laboratories said it received the order in appeal on September 18, 2026, after 2 pm. The disclosure was made under Regulation 30 of the SEBI Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements Regulations, 2015.
According to the filing, the dispute concerns delayed payment of tax on supplies after the applicable time of supply. The company identified Section 13 of the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Act, 2017, and Rule 47 of the CGST Rules, 2017, in connection with the alleged delay and the resulting unpaid interest liability of Rs 6,58,76,590.
The Rs 87,07,09,556 penalty is cited under Sections 74(1) and 122(2)(b) of the CGST Act, 2017, and the corresponding provisions of the Maharashtra State GST Act, 2017.
Unichem said that, based on legal advice, it would take appropriate remedial steps, including filing a further appeal within the prescribed timeline. Its assessment that the order will have no material impact is the company’s stated position in the stock exchange filing.
