BPharma Graduate Held for AI-Generated Fake Bomb Blast Video of UP SSB Camp

Lucknow: A 22-year-old B.Pharma graduate has been arrested for allegedly creating and uploading an AI-generated fake video showing a bomb blast at a Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) camp along the India-Nepal border in Uttar Pradesh's Maharajganj district, police stated.
The accused, identified as Faiyaz Ahmad, allegedly created a nine-second video depicting the 22nd Battalion SSB camp at Sevantari being blown up and uploaded it on Instagram. The video was accompanied by a provocative caption, according to the police.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Maharajganj, Siddharth, stated that the suspect was taken into preventive custody before being produced before a magistrate on Thursday.
According to a statement issued by the police on Wednesday night, authorities quickly traced the social-media account from which the objectionable video had been uploaded. The account was reportedly operated in the name of Faiyaz Ahmad, son of Abdul Kalam and a resident of Sevantari village in Maharajganj.
Police subsequently had the objectionable post removed through the person operating the account and took Faiyaz into custody. He was later produced before a magistrate and sent to judicial custody, the ASP mentioned.
During questioning, Faiyaz allegedly admitted to creating and uploading the AI-generated video with the intention of making his social-media account viral and increasing its likes, views and follower count.
Police added that Faiyaz's Instagram account, a_faiyaz_001x, had around 11,600 followers and 327 posts. His profile reportedly described him as a chemist and pharmacy professional and contained several AI-generated videos. These included videos allegedly showing him driving luxury cars and visiting high-end destinations. His Facebook account was reported to have around 1,600 followers.
According to the police, Faiyaz had completed his B-Pharma course but was unemployed and searching for employment. He allegedly regularly created and uploaded reels and other videos for social-media platforms, reports Hindustan Times.
The incident has led police to intensify surveillance of social-media activity in the border district, particularly content involving security forces, border installations and other sensitive locations.
Police have also cautioned social-media users against creating or circulating provocative or misleading content involving security establishments merely to gain views, likes or followers. Authorities warned that such activity could result in legal action.
