DTE MP Extends Pharmacy Counselling Timeline, Allows More Time for Registration and Choice Filling

The extension comes as the counselling process for pharmacy admissions is being conducted under a revised academic schedule introduced to comply with the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) timeline for completing admissions. Earlier this year, the department had advanced the counselling calendar by nearly a month after the PCI fixed September 15 as the deadline for concluding admissions for the 2026-27 academic session.

The revised counselling schedule had also created challenges because a significant number of pharmacy colleges were still awaiting regulatory approvals. Consequently, only 119 colleges had initially applied to participate in the counselling process, compared to 218 institutions that participated in the previous year's admissions. Nearly 100 colleges were awaiting the necessary approvals for the 2026-27 academic session, preventing them from being included in the initial phase of counselling.

To address the issue, the DTE introduced greater flexibility into the counselling process by allowing colleges that receive approvals during the admission cycle to be added to the online counselling portal. Candidates have also been permitted to modify their college preferences during the final stage of the counselling round, enabling them to opt for newly approved institutions. Officials said the move is intended to ensure that students are not disadvantaged due to delays in regulatory approvals.

The department has advised candidates to regularly monitor the counselling portal for updates regarding newly added institutions and revised counselling schedules. Students have also been encouraged to use the extended timeline to review and revise their preferences, complete document verification and finish all remaining admission formalities within the stipulated period, reports The Times of India.
