Hall Tickets Issued, Then Detained? JNTU-H B.Pharm Students Seek Clarity
Hyderabad: Regulatory uncertainty at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (JNTU-H) has placed several fourth-year B. Pharmacy students from affiliated colleges are in a difficult position, with many reportedly detained even as semester examinations are in progress.
The confusion stems from two separate proceedings issued under the R22 regulations. A circular released in December 2023 stated that students seeking promotion from the third to the fourth year must not have any credit detention. However, another proceeding issued in December 2025 is said to have provided relaxation by permitting promotion with up to six backlogs. The presence of these two directives has reportedly led to varying interpretations among affiliated colleges.
A student told Deccan Chronicle that certain colleges were strictly adhering to the December 2023 norms while detaining students, whereas others appeared to rely on the later circular. The student claimed that hundreds of students across JNTU-H-affiliated B.Pharmacy colleges were informed about their detention based on the interpretation of the updated proceeding.
A student told DC, “From second year to third year, promotions were granted under similar rules, and the same criteria should apply for promotion from third year to fourth year.” The student further questioned the administrative process, asking, “If students were not eligible, how were hall tickets issued for the fourth-year first-semester examinations?”
A student told DC that the December 2023 proceeding did not clearly mention any credit requirement for promotion, yet students were allegedly detained in the middle of ongoing examinations. The student added that lists containing the names of detained candidates were circulated in college WhatsApp groups, leading to anxiety and confusion among those affected.
In response to the situation, the students submitted a representation to the Registrar seeking uniform guidelines for all affiliated institutions. They requested clear instructions on which proceeding should be implemented and urged the university to permit eligible students to continue writing their ongoing semester examinations without interruption.
