Pharmacists Get 15 Days to Update HPR Profile, e-KYC Mandatory, Failure May Deactivate Registry

New Delhi: A new rule concerning the professional registry of registered pharmacists across India requires pharmacists to update and verify their Health Professional Registry (HPR) profiles within 15 days. The process requires e-KYC to be completed first, and failure to complete the prescribed process within the stipulated period may lead to deactivation of the concerned profile.
The requirement is aimed at creating a digital record of pharmacists and enabling online verification of their identity and registration details.
The HPR system has been introduced in collaboration with the National Health Authority. Pharmacists who are already registered on the Digi Pharmed portal and possess a valid BHP number will be required to update their HPR profiles. The process begins with e-KYC, through which pharmacists have to verify their identity information. They are then required to review their personal details, employment information, educational qualifications and registration-related information. Any incomplete information in the profile will also have to be completed.
Pharmacists will have to ensure that all information submitted while updating their profiles is accurate and up to date. After completion of the profile-updating process, the concerned State Pharmacy Council will examine the information. Once the profile is approved by the council, an HPR card will be generated for the pharmacist. The system will maintain digital records relating to a pharmacist's identity, educational qualifications, employment and professional registration details.
Alongside the HPR-related requirement, the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) has also issued directions concerning the 2026 BPharm curriculum. The revised curriculum includes interdisciplinary courses that combine different subjects. Colleges where qualified pharmacy teachers are not available for a particular subject can engage qualified guest or external faculty members. Such teachers are required to possess a postgraduate degree in the relevant subject.
According to the Pharmacy Council of India, the revised curriculum is intended to provide BPharm students with better knowledge across different subjects and prepare them for practical work related to pharmacy. External teachers appointed for teaching will also receive the required training before beginning their teaching responsibilities.
The developments represent changes in both the digital registration of pharmacists and pharmacy education. While the HPR system is intended to strengthen the digital identity and professional records of pharmacists, the revised BPharm curriculum places emphasis on interdisciplinary learning and practical pharmacy education, reports Amar Ujala.
