Nurse arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting Kazakh woman at Gurugram Hospital

Gurgaon: A nursing attendant working at Artemis Hospital in Gurgaon was arrested on Monday for allegedly sexually assaulting a 50-year-old woman patient from Kazakhstan who was undergoing treatment after an arthroscopy surgery.

According to the police, the accused is a 25-year-old man who hails from Tijara in Rajasthan and has been working at the hospital as a nursing attendant for over a year.

The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday after the woman had undergone arthroscopy surgery at the hospital and was shifted to the ward. The nurse attendant while changing her diaper touched her inappropriately. However, the woman did not tell anyone thinking it was a mistake. But the accused allegedly sexually assaulted her several times the same day following which she informed her daughter.

Speaking to The Indian Express, ACP (East) Rishikant said, “The woman had come for treatment with her daughter a day earlier and had to undergo surgery there. Later, she was shifted to the ward. When her diaper was being changed, the attendant touched her inappropriately. She thought it was a mistake and did not tell anyone. But when he repeated it 3-4 times the same day, she informed her daughter who called the police. The daughter lodged a complaint on Sunday and he was arrested."

Based on the daughter's complaint, the police registered an FIR under BNS section 64(2)(e) (rape) and the accused was presented before a local court. He is currently under judicial custody.

In response to the incident, the hospital said, “Artemis Hospital always prioritises the safety of its patients. In lieu of this allegation, we will not leave any stone unturned to ensure that all parties involved are treated with fairness and that a thorough and impartial investigation is conducted so that truth and justice prevail. The person is temporarily off duty till investigation.”
