Odisha: Doctor attacked by patients kin
Balasore: A doctor was assaulted allegedly by the kin of one of his patients and was admitted to the intensive care unit.
Bharat Samal, a medicine specialist on duty in the Balasore district headquarter hospital, was critically injured at the back of his head when he was allegedly assaulted by the father of a dead patient this afternoon, police said.
The doctor was admitted in the hospitals ICU with four stitches for his wounds and is under observation, said the Chief District Medical Officer(CDMO) of Balasore B S Pani.
The 22-year-old patient Krishna Dey, hailing from Balgopalpur and suffering from pancreatic ailment, was admitted to the hospital yesterday afternoon.
As his condition deteriorated, his family was advised to shift him to SCB medical college and Hospital in Cuttack by the doctor this morning.
When he was about to be shifted in an ambulance at around 3 pm, they asked Samal to check his condition. The doctor then declared the patient dead.
Angry over the death of his son, the enraged father allegedly attacked the doctor with a chair and then threw a table at him in his chamber.
He was also attacked with an iron rod, police said.
The inspector in-charge of Town Police station, Dillip Sahu said the accused had been detained and the incident was being probed.
The family members of the patient also lodged a counter FIR against the doctor.
