Patna: Mob fury after youth dies at MJK hospital
Patna: An accident victim recently succumbed to his injuries at MJK hospital in Bettiah after which the district had to face a mob fury.
The victim, a youth in this case was hit by a speeding jeep near Barwat village on Bettiah-Areraj road.
The unruly mob first vandalized the hospital and assaulted the doctor on duty. Even people on their way to the hospital were attacked by the mob. The journalists present on the spot also had to face the wrath.
It has been alleged that the security staff on duty at the hospital was not of much help as they vanished after the mob protested. Attendants of patients were running for help but in vain, as they were pushed back to their wards.
Following this mob action, the doctors and para-medical staff have gone to stage Dharna, marking their protest on hospital premises. The whole medical community seems to be affected as the medicine shops and diagnostic labs in the town have shut their shops.
As reported by TOI, meanwhile, as the day's violence left citizens dumbfounded, the doctors on dharna on the hospital premises deputed a delegation to meet district magistrate (DM) Lokesh Kumar Singh with a charter of demands, including security for doctors on duty and protection of the hospital premises. "We called off our agitation after the DM promptly addressed our concerns," Dr Amitabh Choudhary, district secretary of IMA told TOI, adding that the DM has already deployed police forces on the premises of MJK hospital and Government Medical College.
