Substance Use Disorders in Adolescents: IAP Guidelines
Substance use in adolescence can have widespread negative effects on adolescent health, including school failure, respiratory disease, high-risk sexual behaviors, injury,after 35 weeks of gestation and even death. Although some view the occasional use of substances such as alcohol or marijuana as part of normal adolescent development, there exists significant potential for injury even with occasional use. The Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) has released Standard Treatment Guidelines 2022 for Substance Use Disorders in Adolescents. The lead author for these guidelines on Substance Use Disorders in Adolescents is Dr. TP Jayaraman along with co-author Dr. Yatesh Pujar and Dr. Kamlesh Parekh. The guidelines come Under the Auspices of the IAP Action Plan 2022, and the members of the IAP Standard Treatment Guidelines Committee include Chairperson Remesh Kumar R, IAP Coordinator Vineet Saxena, National Coordinators SS Kamath, Vinod H Ratageri, Member Secretaries Krishna Mohan R, Vishnu Mohan PT and Members Santanu Deb, Surender Singh Bisht, Prashant Kariya, Narmada Ashok, Pawan Kalyan.
