Quack held for conducting sex determination tests, abortions, running clinic illegally
A case under sections 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 465 (punishment for forgery) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 15 of the IMC Act has been registered against the quack.
Mohali: A quack has been arrested under IPC Sections 420, 467, 468 and 471 along with Section 15 of the Indian Medical Council Act for allegedly running a clinic illegally at Mullanpur for the last 3 years without acquiring any mandatory qualification required to run a healthcare centre.
The man identified as one, Rampal, 40-year-old, was running a clinic under the name of Saini Hospital at Mullanpur where he was allegedly carrying out sex determination tests and abortion procedures
The matter came to light when the Health Department received a complaint regarding the illegal selling of drugs.
On taking account of the complaint, a raid was jointly conducted by the Special Task Force (STF) and Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) after which the police sealed the clinic.

However, no drugs could be found in the clinic but it was revealed that a quack was running a clinic without holding the necessary qualification to run a heath centre.
Mullanpur station house officer (SHO) told the TOI, "Officials from the STF and NCB had received information that the accused was smuggling drugs. Acting on the information, a raid was conducted at his clinic on Tuesday evening. During the raid we did not find any narcotic substance, but came to know that the accused did not have any medical degree or diploma."
"We asked the accused to produce required licence, degree on any other documents necessary for running a clinic, but he failed to produce any. Following this, we have sealed his clinic and arrested him," he further added.

The revelation that the accused had conducted sex determination and abortions was made after the raid.
A police officer told the Indian Express, "There was no safety measures for the patients. The accused was using the medicines for the abortions. We have initiated an inquiry. We are yet to find out that from how long the accused was carrying out the illegal activities."
