RG Kar Case: 3 Junior doctors discharged from Medical College Hospital
Kolkata: In a significant development, three of the seven junior doctors who were hospitalized after ending their 17-day fast have been discharged. The strike commenced on October 5 in response to the rape and murder of their colleague at RG Kar Medical College Hospital.
The protest was fueled by serious concerns regarding working conditions and safety protocols at state-run medical college hospitals.
These three protesting doctors were admitted to the Medical College Hospital. On Thursday afternoon, Arnab Mukherjee and Spandan Chowdhury were transferred from the critical care unit (CCU) to the observation ward at SSKM Hospital.
An SSKM official has stated that while the electrolytes of these protesters are improving, they are too weak to be discharged.
Meanwhile, Parichay Panda who was receiving treatment at Ramakrishna Mission Seva Pratisthan is likely to be discharged on Friday. He stated that his condition is stable and that he started taking solid food on Wednesday night.
He further noted that on Saturday he would attend the mass convention to be held at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
The doctors who were discharged during the day were Snigdha Hazra, Sayantani Ghosh Hazra, and Alolika Ghorui.
Following a proactive meeting with the Chief Minister the doctors had ended their fast late on Monday evening. All these protesting doctors are having significant health concerns due to their prolonged fast. An official mentioned that metabolic derangement and metabolic encephalopathy occur in everyone’s body as a result of extended fasting.
As per the recent media report by Telegraph India, an official at Medical College Kolkata said, “We have prescribed medicines for Snigdha Hazra and also advised her to rest for at least two weeks. Her phosphate and magnesium levels are quite low.”
This ongoing support for their cause highlights their commitment to the medical community and their dedication to improving working conditions for medical staff.
