NTRUHS directs affiliated physiotherapy colleges to implement NCAHP's revised BPT curriculum

Vijayawada: Dr NTR University of Health Sciences (NTRUHS) has asked all its affiliated physiotherapy colleges in Andhra Pradesh to implement the revised Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) curriculum developed by the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP), New Delhi.

The decision was announced during an orientation programme held in Vijayawada, where NTRUHS Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr P Chandrasekhar and Registrar Dr T. Sai Sudheer said that the updated syllabus must be adopted across institutions to ensure quality education and practical training.

Addressing principals and faculty members from nearly 70 affiliated physiotherapy colleges, Dr Chandrasekhar said that proposals have been sent to the government to introduce BPT courses in state medical colleges, which would expand opportunities for students.

The programme was attended by Additional Director of Medical Education (Academic) Dr V. Radhika Reddy, Controller of Examinations Dr Ch. Srikanth, representatives of the State Allied and Healthcare Professions Council, and principals from nearly 70 physiotherapy colleges, as per TNIE report.

The revised curriculum was discussed in detail during the programme, with participants sharing their suggestions for its effective implementation. The meeting discussed teaching methods, practical training modules, and strategies for effective implementation, with participants unanimously agreeing to work collectively to deliver high-quality physiotherapy education statewide.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP) released curricula for 17 allied health courses and directed institutions to implement them mandatorily from the 2026-27 academic year. NCAHP Chairperson Yagna Unmesh Shukla said the courses include Occupational Therapy, Respiratory Technology, Medical Physics and Nuclear Medicine Technology. She added that the Commission will soon notify minimum standards for institutions offering allied health programmes.

Dr Shukla announced this while speaking at the inauguration of Mangalore Physiocon, an international physiotherapy conference organised by the South Canara Physiotherapy Teachers’ Association in Mangaluru on April 10.
