Patna NEET aspirant ends life, suicide note cites forced marriage

Suicide
Patna: In a tragic incident, a 22-year-old student preparing for the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) examination allegedly died by suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling. He had reportedly fallen into depression following a forced marriage arranged by his family three months ago.
According to reports, the aspirant was in love with another girl but was allegedly forced to marry someone else in April, as per his family's wishes, following which he was depressed. Unhappy with the marriage and struggling to cope with depression, he allegedly decided to end his life and left behind a suicide note.
The note recovered by the police read, "I was in love with someone else. Under the pressure from my family, I married another girl. I don't want to live any more." The note was found pasted on a wall near his body.'

While the suicide note pointed to heartbreak as the reason behind his death, the student's father told reporters that his son had been depressed due to low marks in the exam. Speaking to Patna Press, he said that his son had been upset after receiving lower-than-expected results.
He further added that the family had been providing emotional support and that the student showed no signs of distress on the day of the incident. They had even spoken with him around 2:30 p.m.
The student had been living in Patna to prepare for the NEET exam while attending classes at PhysicsWallah Institute in Bihta.
According to a latest media report by TOI, the incident came to light on Sunday night, when the aspirant's roommate returned to the hostel around 9 and found the room locked from inside. Despite repeatedly calling him and knocking on the door, the student did not respond. So he became worried and alerted the hostel owner and other students, who broke open the door, only to find him hanging from the ceiling fan with a noose made of a bed sheet.
Following this, the police were informed and reached the spot. His body was sent to Danapur Sub-Divisional Hospital for a postmortem examination. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway.
Prashant Kumar Bhardwaj, Danapur station house officer, told TOI, "The youth was preparing for the NEET exam. He recently got married in April under his family's pressure, and was not happy with the matrimony. According to his friends, Rohit was depressed because he was in love with another girl."
CPI (ML) MLA Ajit Kushwaha told IANS, "We got the news that a boy from our constituency who was living here and studying, he was attending some coaching classes, has died by suicide. This is extremely tragic..."
