Railway doctor helps woman deliver baby aboard Ahmedabad-Barauni Express

Buxar: A railway doctor, Dr Hariom Pathak, and his team assisted a woman in delivering a healthy baby boy at Buxar railway station on Sunday after she went into labour while travelling aboard the Ahmedabad-Barauni Express.
The woman was returning home for the Pooja holidays when she unexpectedly went into labour, prompting the railway medical team to step in and provide assistance.
The incident occurred in the S-2 coach of the Ahmedabad-Barauni Express and involved a couple travelling from Surat to their native village for the Dussehra festivities. The husband, who works at a textile factory in Surat, was travelling with his 25-year-old pregnant wife in coach S-2. Shortly after the train departed from DDU station, the woman began experiencing labour pains, prompting an urgent request for medical assistance.
Swift coordination between railway officials and medical personnel ensured the safe delivery of a healthy baby. Both the mother and the newborn received immediate medical attention following the delivery.
According to UNI, on receiving the information, Buxar Station Manager Rajat Saxena immediately arranged for medical support to meet the train at the station. The doctor and medical team rushed to the coach when the train arrived at Buxar at around 11 am; Dr Hariom Pathak from the railway hospital reached the designated coach with his medical team. With little time to spare, the team attended to the woman and successfully conducted the delivery inside the train compartment. The arrival of the newborn brought a moment of joy amid the tense circumstances.
After the delivery, Dr Pathak advised the couple to get down at Buxar station so that the mother and newborn could receive further treatment, proper care, and medical observation. However, the couple expressed their wish to continue travelling to their village home.
After providing the necessary medical assistance and advice, the railway team allowed the train to resume its journey. The train remained at Buxar station for approximately 30 minutes. Dr Pathak said railway rules provide for a travel pass for a child born aboard a train, allowing the child to travel free of charge until attaining adulthood.
