Chandigarh- A new hostel is being set up in Chandigarh Sector 48 for MBBS students. For this, the Chandigarh Administration has allocated the construction of this new hostel. The administration has also started the tender process for the Special mother and childcare centre at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Sector 32.
The hostel will have a total of seven floors and has been designed in such a way that it will house 138 dormitories and 160 rooms for a total of 574 MBBS students. Along with this, there will also be a parking facility in the complex where about 180 cars can be easily parked.
According to the Times of India media news report, officials have said that, 2.4 lakh square feet of space has been earmarked for the construction of the hostel. In this project, Rs 48 crore has been invested and is expected to be completed by February 2026.
Meanwhile, the Mother and Child Care Center at GMCH will be built in K Block of GMCH-32 at a cost of about Rs 50 crore and is expected to be completed by June 2026. The centre will be a six-storey building with 8 floors and a double basement and will have 322 beds.
As per the sources, since A to J blocks already exist in the hospital, the K block will be exclusively for the maternal and child care centre. The block will be constructed in such a way that it will be interconnected to all the existing (A to J) blocks of GMCH-32.
The project has been planned in consultation with doctors and technical experts.
The Mother and Child Care Center is exclusively dedicated to maternity services and will be supervised by the Department of Neonatal, Obstetrics and Gynaecology. This centre will efficiently provide all types of treatments and services for the care of mothers and children.
