PGI Chandigarh Dr Ravindra Khaiwal ranked among world's top global scholars
Chandigarh: Dr. Ravindra Khaiwal, a noted faculty member at the Department of Community Medicine and the School of Public Health, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, has earned a place among the world’s leading academics in environmental science. He has been named a 2024 Highly Ranked Scholar by ScholarGPS, a globally recognized platform that evaluates scholarly impact and productivity.
Dr. Khaiwal’s exceptional contributions over the past five years have earned him an impressive 16th global ranking in the field of air pollution. His scholarly influence spans several areas: he ranks 1st in North India and 21st globally in environmental monitoring, 36th in pollution, 40th in general public health, and 174th in the broader field of public health. Sharing his happiness over the honour, Dr. Khaiwal stated, “Honoured to be listed among the world’s leading air pollution scholars. Dr. Khaiwal’s groundbreaking work has significantly shaped environmental and health-related policies, particularly in addressing the global challenges of air pollution and climate-driven health concerns. His research has been instrumental in guiding national strategies aimed at mitigating pollution and protecting public health, promoting collaboration among the scientific, environmental, and healthcare communities. He has published more than 135 articles, and he is an MRSC and FHEA.
Previously, Dr. Khaiwal was also recognized by Stanford University as one of the top 1% of environmental scientists globally. He was ranked #1 in India and #130 worldwide in the field of meteorology and atmospheric science, highlighting his far-reaching academic influence and leadership in environmental health research.
Khaiwal has received numerous national and international awards throughout his life, including the Environmentalist of the Year 2007: Around the Globe’ award by the National Environmental Science Academy (NESA); Elsevier NASI-SCOPUS Young Scientist Award (2014); International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) fellowship by the US Department of State; PN Raju Oration Award, ICMR (2019), and Presidential Award, Indian Association of Preventive & Social Medicine (IAPSM) (2021).
