New Delhi: In an unfortunate incident, a junior resident doctor at Rao Tula Ram (RTR) hospital was shot on the face inside the hospital premises as the miscreants escaped with his car on Monday. The resident doctors of the hospital staged a protest and boycotted duties demanding immediate action as the culprits are neither identified nor arrested even after two days.

Standing in solidarity with the protesting resident doctors, the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) also questioned the lack of security at hospitasl. Dr. Rohan Krishnan from FAIMA stated that they are currently pressing for the arrest of the culprits and are also approaching state authorities to arrange financial aid for the operation of the doctor. The association has given 48 hours to Delhi police to arrests the culprits.

The victim has been identified as a 26-year-old junior doctor who was serving his night duty at the casualty ward of the hospital. Describing the incident, Dr. Rohan told Medical Dialogues that during the night duty, the doctor parked his recently purchased Verna car and went to have some tea at a vendor's stall just opposite the hospital. Later, when he approached his car, two men tried to forcibly enter the vehicle. In order to save himself, the doctor immediately reversed his car causing one of the men to fall, and then drove speedily to the hospital premises.
However, when the doctor stopped his car near the emergency ward, one of the miscreants assaulted him and started the firing and shot the doctor on his face. Despite bleeding the doctor got out of the car and ran towards emergency, while the intruder jumped on to the front seat and took hold of the steering. The miscreants drove towards the main gate, which the security guards tried to close but he broke past the gate and drove at great speed. They could escape in the car for long, most probably due to the damage and the car was later found abandoned 2km from the hospital. Though it looks like a car theft gone wrong, police are trying to investigate the probability of any other reasons also.
Dr. Rohan further added, " The doctor was rushed to Akash hospital in a critical condition but his health deteriorated and he was admitted to Medanta Hospital. He is still critical. The doctor is fighting for his life and neither the state nor any of the hospital authorities tried to visit him or talk to his family members. This has been two days, the police have the CCTV footage and even the car was also traced. Then why no one is arrested or even identified even after two days? Under such circumstances, the resident doctors of the hospital went on strike demanding justice for the victim who was also a COVID warrior."
" We supported the doctors and we have requested the Delhi Police to arrest the culprits within 48 hours or else we will take strict measures. Moreover, this is a government hospital and the Delhi government gives insurance to doctors. The victim had to undergo a major surgery and his treatment would cost a fortune. Hence, our association is also requesting the state government to arrange financial aid for the operation of the doctor. I don't understand, why there is no system of promptly releasing money in such cases, the family which is already shocked and grieving had to look for ways to arrange money. There should be a proper system, preferably online, so that issue is resolved at the hospital level only."
The association also stated that any kind of excuses cant be tolerated in a case where a doctor got shot on the face in public at the hospital premises and the culprits even escaped taking the victim's car. " We are now scared to go near the premises even to have tea. Two days and no steps taken, something seems fishy but all we want is a proper investigation and the arrest of the culprits."
