Delhi: Dr Sanjeev Gulati, Executive Director, Nephrology and Kidney Transplant of Fortis Group of Hospitals, NCR has recently been elected as the President of the Indian Society of Nephrology (ISN). He was appointed as the 52nd President of ISN at its annual conference in Pune.

Congratulating the doctor over the great success, Fortis Hospital authorities stated that this evaluation of the doctor serves as a testament to his lifelong commitment towards the well-being of patients.

Dr. Sanjeev Gulati is currently working as Director, Nephrology at Fortis Escorts, Okhla, New Delhi. He was previously working as an Additional Professor in Nephrology at Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow, He has also worked as Associate Professor in Pediatric Nephrology at McMaster University, Hamilton, Canada. He has special expertise in managing kidney transplants and children with renal diseases and has experience at leading hospitals in UK, Australia and Canada.

He played a pivotal role in the Dialysis and Transplant programme at SGPGI, Lucknow which is amongst the largest programmes in the country. He has presented papers at several international and national conferences and published more than 130 scientific papers in indexed journals including NEJM, Kidney International and American Journal of Kidney Diseases.

He has received several awards for his original contributions to the field of kidney diseases. His work has received recognition from the Indian Council of Medical Research, the Indian Academy of Pediatrics, the Indian Society of Nephrology, the Australian College of Pediatrics, the Royal College of Pediatrics and Child Health UK Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the Japanese Society of Nephrology. He is Vice President of the Indian Society of Organ Transplantation and a Member Governing Body Indian Society of Nephrology.

As per a recent media report by Rising Kashmir, Dr Gulati always emphasized that one of today's greatest difficulties is addressing the gap of knowledge between doctors and the general public, a fact that has served as the theme of World Kidney Day in 2022.

In his presidential address, Dr. Gulati noted that, aside from India holding the G20 presidency this year, Indians have left their mark in the world arena during the past several years as CEOs of major multinational corporations or as political leaders in nations like England.

"In Nephrology too, several Indian nephrologists have had leadership positions both in the International Society of Nephrology as well as the American Society of Nephrology," Dr Gulati said.
He further added, "Even though new and effective therapies have emerged over the last few years, their penetration and availability to the needy and the affected remains low. The emergence of social media has made this even more challenging as it is full of misinformation and unavalidated and alternative therapies. As a result, the common man is often misguided, and patients with CKD continue to present late to nephrologists after spending a considerable amount of time and finances on these untested therapies."

Dr Gulati pledged to put in a lot of effort, together with the other Governing Body members, to help the Indian Society of Nephrology solidify its place in the world of nephrology.
"It is time for everyone to rise up to this challenge and expand the use of social media platforms, beyond the teaching of the medical fraternity, to the common man, so that we can educate the literate as well as illiterate," Dr Gulati said. "Under his tenure, the Indian Society of Nephrology plans to launch a number of patient welfare and public outreach initiatives during the forthcoming year."

Fortis congratulates Dr Sanjeev Gulati (Principal Director-Nephrology & Kidney Transplant, Fortis Hospital, Vasant Kunj) for achieving the momentous milestone of becoming President of Indian Society of Nephrology, 2022. We wish him all the best for many more years of success. pic.twitter.com/XnlbPGFkOO
