New Delhi: Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital Launches Special Pollution OPD
New Delhi: With Delhi's pollution breaking ever-hazardous records of exceeding the 999 mark at a specific location in the national capital, the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital launched a 'pollution' Outpatient Department on Wednesday, committed to assisting patients with pollution-related health concerns.
As per a report in New Indian, Dr. Ajay Shukla, the Medical Superintendent at the hospital, explained that he believed it was important to establish a comprehensive OPD to address all medical issues related to pollution, especially during this time of year when Diwali pollution peaks. He mentioned that patients experience both acute and chronic problems during this period, affecting various body parts, making it necessary to open a specialised department.
The doctor informed that the ENT, eye, ophthalmology, dermatology, and respiratory medicine or pulmonary medicine departments will all be associated with the outpatient department (OPD). In addition, the psychiatric division will be included to the OPD Pollution List. Given the volume of patients the hospital sees every day, these departments were included. According to the doctor, the respiratory department alone sees close to thirty people every day. Every Monday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., the OPD will be open for two hours.
Air pollution has been linked to the development of emphysema, asthma, and a variety of other respiratory disorders.According to a Delhi Pollution Control Committee analysis, the capital experiences peak pollution from November 1 to November 15 when the number of stubble burning incidents in Punjab and Haryana increases.
