New Delhi: RGSSH Resident Doctors call off strike after credit of two months salary
Delhi: The resident doctors of Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital (RGSSH), New Delhi have finally called off their strike as the administration has credited two-month salaries and has promised to credit the due salary within a week.
The resident doctors of RGSSH have been on indefinite strike since October 23rd as they have not received their salaries for the last 4 months. As part of the indefinite strike, the doctors have boycotted elective services, including OPD (Outpatient Department) and Operation Theatre (OT). However, the resident doctors have continued their services to emergency patients already admitted in wards, and ICUs, and also attended to other surgical emergencies.
Dr Arun Kumar, Resident Doctor Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital (RGSSH) and General Secretary, United Doctors Front Association (UDFA) told Medical Dialogues, “ We have approached the director of the institute regarding their concerns on October 7 as well as on October 16. However, we did not receive any response from the institute after which the doctors went on an indefinite strike on 23rd October. The resident doctors have not received their salaries since 25th June. The institute has said that this is because they do not have to budget to pay the salaries.”
"We have our own personal lives and families, bills to pay, rent to pay. All of this has been affected due to the non-availability of salaries, causing severe stress to the doctors. Finally, we have won. The resident doctors of Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital called off the strike after getting the salary of 2 months and the rest of the salary is going to be credited within a week as assured by the administration of the Hospital,” added Dr Arun Kumar.
The protesting doctors pointed out that for the smooth running of the facility and the welfare of the doctors, authorities should prioritize the past-due salary. Now the doctors have resumed work as they have been given their pending salaries for July and August.
