Faridabad: 18 year old NEET 2026 candidate commits suicide after checking answer key

Faridabad: Moments after checking her NEET UG 2026 re-exam results, a 18-year-old NEET aspirant allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the 16th floor of a residential society in Faridabad.
According to media reports, she was upset after scoring lower than she had expected.
Preliminary investigation suggested she had been distressed after estimating her probable score using the NEET-UG answer key released by the National Testing Agency (NTA) earlier this week.
The deceased allegedly jumped from the roof of Tower A2 at SRS Royal Hills Society in Sector 87 between 11.30 am and noon. She had recently appeared for the NEET-UG re-examination on June 21.
According to police, she assessed her expected score, and the estimated marks were lower than she had anticipated, leaving her upset.
According to News18, the student's family told police that she had expected to score much higher in the NEET exam. However, after checking the answer key, she estimated that she might secure around 600 out of 720 marks. Her family said she had been under mental stress ever since and allegedly died by suicide.
The incident took place when the student stepped out of her flat around noon, took the lift to the top floor of the residential building and allegedly jumped. After being alerted, police rushed to the spot, sent the body for post-mortem examination and later handed it over to the family.
Police said her family is originally from Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh and has been living in a rented house in Faridabad for some time. Her father works in a senior position at a private company. She was alone at home when the incident occurred as her mother was in Vijayawada.
"A team from Bhupani police station reached the spot after receiving information and completed the necessary legal formalities. Further investigation is underway," a Faridabad police spokesperson told PTI.
The NEET-UG examination was re-conducted on June 21 after the earlier test was cancelled following allegations of a question paper leak.
On Monday, the NTA released scanned images of candidates' answer sheets to enable them to verify and challenge their recorded responses.
