Haryana ACB arrests Deputy CEO of Ayushman Bharat Scheme, Seizes Rs 1 crore
Panchkula: A team from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has recovered Rs. 1.02 crore from the residence of the Deputy CEO of the Ayushman Bharat Scheme in the city. The doctor was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakh.
The doctor was presented before a local court, and the judge ordered a four-day police remand for further investigation.
The ACB team from Karnal arrested the doctor following a complaint lodged by the owner of a private hospital. The complainant alleged that the doctor demanded Rs. 10 lakh in lieu of cancelling the suspension of his hospital under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana. After negotiations, the bribe amount was brought down to Rs. 5 lakh, reports The Tribune.
During the investigation, ACB officials conducted a raid at his flat in Amravati, leading to the recovery of Rs 1.02 crore in cash. The raid, which began on Thursday evening, continued into late Friday as authorities uncovered the money.
The ACB officials are now interrogating the doctor to determine the source of the seized cash and to uncover any other individuals who may be involved in the case. This incident highlights the ongoing efforts to curb corruption within government programs, especially in the healthcare sector.
The principal objective of the Anti Corruption Bureau Haryana is to curb the evil of corruption amongst Public Servants and to prevent leakage of Government revenue by taking action against unscrupulous Government Servants who indulge in malpractices and corruption.
A few months ago, the Haryana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a Medical Officer (MO) posted at the Municipal Corporation Faridabad, on charges of accepting a bribe amounting to Rs 3 lakh. The medical officer was accused of soliciting the bribe in exchange for facilitating the issuance of a certificate of empanelment as a bulk waste generator.
