Atal Medical and Research University to Roll Out FMG Internships

Himachal Pradesh- The Atal Medical and Research University (AMRU) has confirmed that it will soon be conducting internships for foreign medical graduates (FMGs) in Himachal Pradesh from the current session.
A meeting was held with representatives of the FMG community on Monday, wherein the assurance was given in the meeting. According to the All FMG Association (AFA), a total of 16 FMG students attended the meeting with AMRU officials.
The meeting was also attended by the Controller of Examinations (CoE), who addressed in detail the various concerns raised by the FMGs, including availability of seats for internships and clarity on their eligibility for the National Eligibility and Entrance Test-Postgraduate (NEET PG) next year.
According to Edexlive media news report, it has been announced in the meeting that the university will release an official notification within 7-10 days after the scheduled meeting with the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER), Shimla, this week.
Meanwhile, AFA shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) saying, "We also met the Vice Chancellor who heard us out patiently and assured us that he will discuss the implementation process with the COE to ensure smooth execution of the internship".
Dr Kaushal, media coordinator of All FMG Association (AFA), pointed out the seriousness of the matter and said, “While all other states like Uttar Pradesh have started their counselling process for FMG internships, Himachal Pradesh has not issued a single notification. The exam ended in January 2025. This delay clearly puts the FMGs here at a disadvantage.”
This important development has come as a significant relief to many FMGs of Himachal Pradesh who were eagerly waiting for clarity on their internship counselling. The FMG exam is an important step towards obtaining their medical registration in India.
