Shimla: A coordination meeting was held between the National Health Mission (NHM) and the Himachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (HPSACS) with the objective of eliminating the vertical transmission of HIV and syphilis.
The primary aim of the meeting was to further strengthen coordination between the two departments to ensure early identification and effective management of HIV and syphilis amongst expectant women. The meeting was chaired by Pradeep Kumar, Mission Director, NHM.

Emphasis was laid on ensuring regular screening of all pregnant women, especially at health institutions, besides developing a strategy to conduct testing for women who deliver at home. Apart from this, deliberation were made upon strengthening information, education, and communication activities to raise public awareness.
It was observed that if both the NHM and AIDS control society works in coordination besides other related departments, significant progress can be made toward eliminating vertical transmission of HIV and syphilis in the state.
The joint efforts aim to ensure timely screening of every pregnant woman and provide them with necessary care and support. This initiative will serve as a strong step toward the prevention of HIV and syphilis in the state, said Pradeep Kumar.
Rajeev Kumar, Project Director, HPSACS, was also present at the meeting.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the State Government will soon initiate the recruitment process for specialist robotic surgeons to launch robotic surgery services across Himachal Pradesh, aimed at providing advanced medical treatment within government health institutions, ensuring high-quality healthcare access for the people of the State. A proposal outlining the recruitment rules for these specialist surgeons will be presented to the State Cabinet for approval shortly. In addition to performing surgeries, the recruited experts will also train other doctors in robotic surgical techniques, helping build a future-ready team of skilled professionals in the State.
