RIMS SR Booked for alleged rape attempt on 1st year Anaesthesia Medico, now absconding
As per the complaint, the incident took place on May 27 (Wednesday). After the duty hours got over, the senior doctor allegedly sneaked into her room on the fourth floor at the paying ward. He switched off the lights, and sexually assaulted her and tried to rape her.
Ranchi: A senior resident doctor attached to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences' (RIMS) has been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code for allegedly molesting and attempting to rape a junior resident doctor in the COVID-19 ward there.
The medical practitioner, a senior resident in the Department of Anesthesia has been booked based on a written complaint filed by the junior doctor who is a first-year student in the anesthesia department. The complainant and the senior resident were at COVID-19 duty at the new trauma center from May 21 to May 27. As per the complaint, the incident took place on May 27 (Wednesday). After the duty hours got over, the senior doctor allegedly sneaked into her room on the fourth floor at the paying ward. He switched off the lights, and sexually assaulted her and tried to rape her.
Thereafter, the lady doctor filed a complaint against the senior resident, informing the RIMS management about the alleged incident. The complaint was forwarded to the station-in-charge of Bariatu police station where an FIR was lodged.
However, the officers stated that they faced a technical glitch over taking immediate action against the senior doctor as he went into quarantine for 14 days after the alleged incident took place.

Commenting on the incident, Rims director D K Singh told TOI, "It is a very unfortunate incident and the management will not hesitate to take strict action against the accused. The girl, along with her head of department (anesthesia) had met me on Thursday evening to hand over the complaint. I forwarded it to the station in charge of Bariatu Police Station for legal action as per her request."
"If she asks for an internal inquiry, we will hand over the case to the Woman's Cell at RIMS to investigate the matter at their level," he added.
Meanwhile, the Junior Doctors' Association, RIMS, has also called for speedy action in the case, demanding immediate arrest of the accused and cancellation of his medical license. A few of the protesters alleged that police downplayed the matter because the accused is a relative of a noted city-based nephrologist.
"We have raided several places to nab the accused but he is absconding," Officer In-charge Bariatu Police Station Sapan Mahta told the daily. He further added that the doctor has been booked under Section 376(rape) and 511(attempt to commit an offense) of the IPC.
The senior doctor is currently serving quarantine at a city hotel, reports HT.
