18 year old NEET aspirant commits suicide in Kalaburagi

Dead
Kalaburagi: In an unfortunate incident, an 18-year-old girl who recently appeared for NEET UG 2026 on May 3, which was recently cancelled by the NTA amid paper leak controversy, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a fan at her residence.
The family told the media that she had secured 92 per cent marks in the Class 12 PUC examination and had no apparent academic stress. They stated that she had also appeared for the NEET examination and that everything seemed to be going well. The family suspects she may have been upset about having to reappear for the NEET re-examination scheduled for June 21.
However, as per an NDTV media report, the aspirant had allegedly misrepresented her Class 12 PUC results to her parents and had reportedly failed the examination. The report stated that she scored 45 marks in Physics, including 30 internal assessment marks, and 24 marks in Mathematics, including 20 internal assessment marks.
The exact reason behind the aspirant's death remains unclear, as no suicide note was found. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident.
Speaking to PTI, his father said, "There was no distress or problem in our family, and we were living happily. She had performed well (in NEET), and everything was going well. Maybe she had some feelings in her mind about writing it (NEET) again. I do not blame anyone, I do not accuse anyone. We do not know her pain or suffering. What can I say?"
NDTV reported that the aspirant told her father about scoring 92 per cent marks in the Class 12 PUC examination, whose results were declared on May 21. However, shortly after her death, when her father checked the result online, he found out that she had failed in the examination.
The family did not wish to blame anyone for their daughter's death. A police source said she did not write any death note or give any reason.
A case has been registered in this regard under the jurisdiction of Station Bazaar police station.
NEET-UG held on 3 May was cancelled following allegations of question paper leak, and the NTA has scheduled a re-exam on 21 June.
