Bengaluru doctor arrested in wildlife trafficking case

Bengaluru- A doctor at a private hospital in Bengaluru's Jayanagar has been arrested, while six others have been detained following a wildlife crime investigation that led to the seizure of several exotic species.
Acting on a tip-off, officials conducted a search operation at flat C302 of Adarsh Hill Apartments in Kumaraswamy Layout, where exotic wild animals were allegedly being housed.
During the search operation, exotic wildlife such as ball pythons, lizards, and turtles were seized, along with suitcases bearing airport baggage tags and other suspicious materials linked to wildlife smuggling. According to reports, investigators also discovered traces of cannabis (Ganja) during the operation, as per the TNIE report.
Officials are also examining records of travel linked to the investigation. However, preliminary information indicates that individuals connected to this case frequently travelled to countries such as Thailand and Malaysia, which are major hubs for the exotic pet trade.
Meanwhile, the case has garnered further attention as individuals identified during the investigation have allegedly been linked to the Instagram handle “@Zoo2You”—a handle that promoted wildlife education programs in schools, colleges, apartment complexes, and at public events.
Photographs and social media content related to these activities reveal that exotic animals are being displayed to the general public, including children.
