Govt AYUSH hospital in Mangalore set to introduce hydrotherapy facility
Mangalore: The AYUSH Multi-speciality Hospital on the premises of Wenlock District Hospital is all set to introduce the new cutting-edge technology of hydrotherapy, a treatment that applies and uses water to treat a variety of symptoms while adhering to the principles of naturopathy.
The confirmation of this news has been given by Dr Mohammad Iqbal, district Ayush officer. He further added that the hydrotherapy unit worth Rs 20 Lakh will be inaugurated by this week, and the equipment was sponsored by the Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilisers (MCF).
Initially, hydrotherapy is used to treat ailments such as pain and stiffness. Yet, as part of a more comprehensive treatment or symptom management approach, professionals may advise certain kinds of hydrotherapy. Colon hydrotherapy will be made available soon, stated Dr Iqbal.
At present, the treatment is only therapeutic, and not wellness based. All of the equipment is cutting-edge and safe to use. These therapies are used to detoxify the body, and typically only the wealthy choose to get them at private facilities.
The facility will be functional soon as it requires a lot of water and summer depends on water availability. The hospital has installed a sauna bath, iron detox, deluxe hydromassage, underwater massage, spinal bath, spinal spray, foot and arm baths, powder massage, local steam, and other amenities as part of its naturopathy services.
Dr Iqbal told the Times of India, "The government’s aim is to make sure that these therapies reach everyone. These days non-communicable diseases are increasing because of lifestyle and food habits, and through Ayush, some of them can be reversed."
He also pointed out that introducing hydrotherapy is a step towards integrating ayurveda and panchakarma with Unani and naturopathy. "A patient can get the benefits of panchakarma from ayurveda, a sauna detox box from naturopathy and hijama from Unani. This is probably for the first time in India, that all the six Indian systems of medicine, prevalent and practised in India, are under one roof,” he said.
The Ayush hospital currently has 50 beds, and administrators hope to grow that number to 80. The OPD receives 100–150 patients each day. Nonetheless, the hospital needs more than 100 employees, and the vacancies will be filled soon.
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the Govt District Wenlock AYUSH Hospital in Mangaluru in 2021 and the hospital has been improving the treatment measures while integrating different approaches of naturopathy.
