Karnataka: Fee Regulatory Committee formed to fix MBBS fees for next 4 years
Bengaluru: The Higher Education Department of Karnataka has set up a fee regulatory committee to determine fees for MBBS, Dental and AYUSH courses that will remain the same for 4 years. This move aims to provide stability and predictability for both educational institutions and students.
Officials informed TOI that any deliberation on fee structures will be deferred until after the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Furthermore, it has been indicated that there will be no alterations to the fees for the academic year 2024-25 in colleges that are already part of the annual consensual agreement.
Functioning from the Karnataka Examinations Authority office in Malleswaram, the committee will operate in accordance with Sections 6 and 7 of the Karnataka Professional Educational Institutions (Regulation of Admission and Determination of Fee) Act 2006. It has been directed to expedite its proceedings and submit its report promptly to the government. It's noteworthy that a similar fee regulatory committee was formed in 2018, although its recommendations were not implemented, reports the daily.
In addition to the fee regulatory committee, the members of the admission monitoring committee have also been unveiled. Led by Justice B Manohar as the chairperson, the committee includes the Vice-Chancellor of either Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) or Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), two nominees appointed by the chairperson, and the Principal Secretary. The tenure of this panel will extend for one year.
