SDPI submits memorandum to Karnataka CM demanding medical college, super speciality hospital
Karnataka- The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) has demanded a government medical college in the coastal district of Mangaluru, Karnataka as well as a super speciality hospital with 1,000 beds and earmarking funds for it in the budget.
On this, SDPI of Dakshina Kannada district unit members have submitted a memorandum to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah through Karnataka’s Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao. Meanwhile, SDPI district president Anwar Sadath urged the CM to announce the establishment of a government medical college in Dakshina Kannada in the forthcoming state budget meeting.
According to the Times of India media news report, Anwar Sadath said “A unit of Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research should be set up in Mangaluru. A special task force should be set up in the district to prevent moral policing and communal riots”.
“An awareness programme should be organised to maintain peace and harmony in the region, Mr Sadath further said, adding that a sum of Rs 100 crore should be earmarked for the purpose”.
SDPI has also demanded the construction of Haj Bhawan and Beary Bhawan within the district.
The Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research (SJICR), was established in 1972 in Bangalore. It is a tertiary care autonomous healthcare institution which is run by the Government of Karnataka in Bangalore. Alongside its main facility in Bangalore, SJICR also has its additional centres in Mysore and Gulbarga. The hospital serves approximately 165,000 patients per year and has both cardiology, cardio-thoracic and pediatric cardiology, with a daily average of 1000-1200 OPD visits. SJIC is the only government centre which offers post-doctoral courses in Cardiology, Cardio-thoracic Surgery, Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Anesthesia in the state of Karnataka. It is considered to be the best cardiology set-up in India and Asia and the super specialty training program is considered one of the best in India at par with AIIMS Cardiology.
